Birds can be beautiful and are enjoyable to be around, although the wrong kind of bird in the wrong environment can become a menace. Birds can also be a large pest around your property as they can deface buildings, damage cars with their acidic droppings and if they are to nest in roof space they will encourage secondary pest infestation.

In Australia we have many species of birds, below are two of the most common you would find around your property:

Common Indian Myna / Indian Myna Acridotheres tristis:This bird is 12cm tall, chocolate brown in colour with a black head and neck and a yellow beak. The reproduce 2 times a year with an average of 4 eggs in each clutch. They feed on a mix of fruits and scraps. They are mostly found at rubbish tips. They tend to nest in roofs of houses which can cause an infestation of mites which will create a breeding ground for disease.

Feral Pigeon Columba livia: The Pigeon is 32cm king and is blue-grey in colour. They reproduce 2-3 times a yea with 2 eggs in each clutch. They feed on scraps, seeds and green feed. They nest on ledges which leads to dropping on and around buildings.
