A rat or mouse in your home should be treated seriously, even if the pest is not in your living areas. They are able to gnaw through the wires in your walls which could then cause you thousands of dollars worth of repair bills.
Below are three different species you may find creeping around your property:

Black Rat / Norway Rat - Rattus rattus: Is roughly 16/24 cm in length with a long tail that is longer than the bead and body. They can weigh between 150 – 200g and reproduce 3-6 litters a year. They can climb and agile but rarely burrow and do not spend much time outdoors. They can eat up to 15g of food a day and drink 15ml.

Brown Rat / Roof Rat - Rattus norvegicus: Is roughly 40cm in length and its tail is shorter than the head and body. It ways between 350-500g and has a blunt nose, small ears and a thick body. They can reproduce 7 – 8 times a year and it takes 10 – 12 weeks from birth for the rat to reach sexual maturity. Rarely climb, although like burrowing and living on the ground.

House Mouse - Mus domesticus: Can grow up to 7 - 9.5cm long and has a tail that is the same length as its body and weigh 12-30g. They reproduce roughly around 7-8 times a year. They often climb and burrow.
